April wasn’t having fun on the trip. “Paris today just isn’t the same as when I was a little girl,” her grandmother repeated for the umpteenth time. April rolled her eyes. “Did I ever tell you my own mother, your great-grandmother, knew Van Gogh?” This last part was new information to April. She felt on her finger for her favorite enamel ring, a blue enamel crossover pattern set with clear gemstones. She’d told all her friends it reminded her of the painter’s Starry Night canvas. Feigning boredom this time, April asked, “How well?”
